- Monday, 9/28: Storing Dried Garlic
- I cleaned up all chicken butchering things, but didn't get to the saved feathers or putting away lights and extension cords.
- Mary took down all of the garlic hanging in the machine shed, trimmed off the dried tops and sorted the garlic bulbs. She threw out seven bulbs, stored questionable bulbs in a separate bag to be used first, pulled out the best bulbs for replanting, and put all other bulbs into loose-knit bags according to each garlic variety. There were several large bulbs this year and a few bad bulbs. Continuous rains contributed to larger bulb sizes. A hard spring freeze nailed a few garlic bulbs that turned bad.
- I took down the wall that separates chicks from hens in the chicken coop and stored all of the wall pieces in the machine shed rafters. The older hens liked being let loose in the north chicken run, along with the added space of the entire chicken coop.
- Mary saw a bald eagle flying north to south.
- We watched Sense and Sensibility (1995), enjoyed popcorn, then shared a bottle of 2024 parsnip wine.
- We heard a screech owl in the west woods near Frog Pond while walking Cooper on his last outing.
